Karin or Catharina Tilmans is a cultural historian, visiting fellow of the Department of History and Civilisation at the European University Institute, Florence, and currently coordinator of the Max Weber Programme for Post Doctoral Studies of the EUI. She trained as a medieval and art historian at the University of Groningen, in the Netherlands, where she defended her PhD in 1988 on Historiography and Humanism in the Time of Erasmus.
